Family Systems

Therapeutic support to reconnect, gain new ways of relating, and thrive in your family context

How we understand our family and their view of us can shape our choices, behaviour, and identity. Often we are unaware of family patterns influencing us, getting stuck in ways of relating that leave us isolated, in conflict, or chronically stressed. While we can gain our greatest strengths from our family, we also may carry old wounds that underlie our ongoing problems. Beyond these relational patterns, family is also the sphere where suffering can hit hardest through loss, betrayal, or overwhelm from life's demands.

Counselling for concerns in our 'family system' can be effective for grappling with and working through these issues. We prioritize starting well with a thorough assessment to know where you are at with your family, what has gone wrong, and what we are hoping and aiming for. This assessment lays the groundwork for creating a treatment plan which we will shape together with you.

We know this type of work can feel vulnerable to begin, especially if this is new for you or if there is fear of being shamed in counselling. Your counsellor will work with you as a team to form a plan for counselling that accounts for your needs, fears, and goals. Every step of the way, we will prioritize your experience of safety in the counselling process.

Consider if counselling around family concerns may be a good fit for you. Some areas often addressed include:

  • Navigating Illness & Mental Illness

  • Families with Grief & Trauma

  • Reconciliation

  • Parenting Adult Children

  • Family Life Transitions & Aging

  • Family Secrets

  • Sibling Conflict

  • Family Identity, History, & Dreaming

  • Caring for Children during Divorce

For some situations, it can be difficult to know where to start. This is something we can navigate together for what direction may be most beneficial to start with.

Our sessions are offered in-person and virtually. â€‹â€‹â€‹
